Doc
Hull grew up hunting ducks and geese in the rainwater
basin area of central Nebraska and on the Platte River
located in central and western Nebraska. This was
when the waterfowl populations very high and hunting
pressures were low. Doc became interested in making
calls after reading an article in the "The American
Shotgunner" and shortly after that contacted Ray Wright
of Portage Indiana to learn his basic callmaking skills.
Doc has been making calls since 1986 using hardwoods,
acrylics, synthetic woods, ivory and horn for their
beauty and tone quality. Doc Calls are designed with
a curved tone board style with a tapered sound channel
to produce a controllable volume and stable pitch.
The barrel is "Glodo" design like
calls by Victor Glodo of the Reelfoot lake area. This
barrel style produces the resonant cavity sound and
allows a special treatment of the mouthpiece that
makes the call easier to blow.
Doc uses "O"
ring adapters on all of the inserts of both the duck
calls and goose calls. The "O" ring adapter
seals the insert in the barrel and the insert will
not fall out of the barrel
Doc has used
the stick proof insert design for many years now and
it has proven to work well in all kinds of conditions.
These calls just do not stick.
Not all of
Docs attention is spent on duck calls, he also makes
three types of goose calls as well. Doc makes a a
Short Reed Goose call that is very easy to operate
as well as the "Big John" long flute Goose
call and the "Derringer" short flute Goose
call.
All "Doc Calls" are numbered, signed and guaranteed
for as long as you own the call.
